Starter Anime Recommendations | BEDIM 23

3/25/2016

Hello everyone! As you all know, I am an anime fanatic. I love anime! I have watched many anime's, but if you are reading this because you want to start watching anime, then I have some good starter anime recommendations for you!

#1: Sword Art Online

Some of you may recognize this picture, but this is SAO. My very first anime! I enjoyed it and watched the first season within 3 days... Although this is a good anime and I recommend it to anyone who wants to start getting into anime, only watch the first season. The second season took a downfall and is just boring. I tried to watch it, but it was just too boring. You will definitely fall in love with the characters like Yui and Liza. This is a brief description of the what the first season is about:

In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now...

#2: Noragami

This anime is by far, my favourite anime. I fell in love with all of the characters and their personalities! There is humour and fun and all the above! It's kind of a coming of age type story. There are many fun, lovable characters to see and I think you would definitely enjoy this one! There are 2 seasons and OVA's. Here is a brief description of the first season:

Yato is a minor deity who lacks even a single shrine. In order to build his own shrine and gain recognition as a god, he scrawls his cell number on the wall of a downtown bathroom telling people he will help them in exchange for a 5-yen offering, becoming a self-styled "delivery god." Hiyori, the daughter of a respectable family, is almost killed in a traffic accident, but is rescued by Yato. This causes her to become a "hanyou," a person who can exit her body in soul form. She chases Yato down, and they begin to work together to help Yato be recognized. Yato also finds a boy named Yukine who becomes a Regalia, a "sacred treasure" that can be used by a god as a weapon to fight. The three of them battle phantoms who bring harm to humans as Yato's dark hidden history is gradually revealed.

#3: Haikyuu!!

You will get some good laughs out of Haikyuu!! I'm not even joking! I laughed a lot because the characters have AMAZING senses of humour. They are all unique in their different ways, from personality and hairstyle, to their strength in volleyball. For example, Hinata is determined to be the best volleyball player in the world, he has spiked orange hair and his strength is spiking. Here is a brief description of the first season:

A chance event triggered Shouyou Hinata's love for volleyball. His club had no members, but somehow persevered and finally made it into its very first and final regular match of middle school, where it was steamrolled by Tobio Kageyama, a superstar player known as "King of the Court." Vowing revenge, Hinata applied to the Karasuno High School volleyball club... only to come face-to-face with his hated rival, Kageyama!

#4: Free!!

You may have heard about Free!! from other people. It is a great anime! My favourite character is Makoto. He is gentle, kind and sweet, and when he senses you are down, he will do anything he can to make you smile. Even if it's a little smile, he will know he did something to make you smile. Here is a brief description of the first season:

The story revolves around Haruka Nanase, a boy who has always loved to be immersed in water, and to swim in it. Before graduating from elementary school, he participated in a swimming tournament along with his fellow swimming club members, Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rin Matsuoka. After achieving victory, each of the boys went their separate ways.

Time passed, and in the middle of their uneventful high school lives Rin appears and challenges Haruka to a match, showing Haruka his overwhelming power. Not wanting it to end like this, Haruka, gathers together Makoto and Nagisa once again and brings a new member named Rei Ryugazaki to create the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club in order to defeat Rin.

#5: Akagami no Shirayuki-hime

THIS IS THE CUTEST FREAKING ANIME I HAVE EVER SEEN OH MY GOD! If you are into kind of like disney type movies, you are probably gonna like this one! Except there's no magic (sorry). In english translation, this anime is called "Snow White with The Red Hair". This has to be my second favourite anime after Noragami. All the character's go together so well and I think the story line will always have you asking for more. They end some episodes on cliff hangers and you are just sitting there like "WHAT? NO! WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN?!" Here is a brief description of the first season:

Shirayuki was a young girl born with unique apple-red hair. She meets a famous but foolish Prince Raji, who falls in love with her at first sight and orders her to become his concubine. With nowhere else to go, Shirayuki cuts her hair and escapes to a neighboring country. While traversing through the forests, she meets a young boy, Zen, who helps her after she boldly cures his wounds but then gets poisoned by an apple given to Shirayuki. Meanwhile, Prince Raji sends out henchmen to search for her. What will happen to Shirayuki? What is Zen's true character? A refreshing fantasy story between an optimistic heroine and a prince who constantly stays on her watch.
